Cascade
is located in Long Valley in the central Idaho mountains between the beautiful North Fork of the Payette River (known for
its world class kayaking) and Cascade Lake. The Cascade area offers year-round outdoor
sports and recreation for everyone, popular for all types of boating, the prevailing winds
on the lake make it an excellent location for sailing and wind-surfing. Rainbow trout,
Coho salmon and perch can be caught at Cascade Lake from shore or by boat in the summer or
through the ice in winter. The numerous rivers, streams and mountain lakes in the
surrounding 50 mile area offer a variety of fishing opportunities. For the hearty winter
sports enthusiast, the area offers 800 miles of groomed snow-mobile trails and 27 km of
groomed Nordic Ski trails. Annual events in Cascade include:

A beautiful and challenging nine hole golf course graces the shores of Cascade Lake.
The City maintains a park in town with tennis court, playground & pavilion. The City
also hosts several invitational softball tournaments at its sports park which includes two
baseball diamonds, a football field, picnic area, playground &
concession stand. Hunting, camping, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, rafting and
photography are just a few of the outdoor recreational opportunities available. Cascade is
the gateway to the Frank Church Wilderness Area. Back country ranches are accessible from
the Cascade Airport, with approximately 4700 ft of paved and lighted runway. Cascade is
home to approximately 1,050 permanent residents and it is the county seat for Valley
County. Valley County and the U.S. Forest Service are the
Largest employers. The Cascade School District is a small rural school with approximately
369 student K-12 and 50 staff members. There are seven churches of various denominations
serving Cascade, and a Senior Citizen Center. Medical needs are met by the Valley County
Hospital that is staffed by two full-time doctors. Clean air and friendly people make
Valley County the ideal place to live.
Four Season Living
Describes the year/round setting that we all so enjoy. Summers are mild with
temperatures in the 75-95s with cool nights through August. Fall brings turning of
the leaves, squirrels gathering nuts and the notice that it is time to cut firewood.
Winter snows begin with a skiff in October & November with generally a white Christmas
of one foot plus in the Valley floor and three feet plus on the High Mountains. Spring
runoff signals the beginning growth of wildflowers, pastures, trees and wildlife.
Recreation - Tourism
Clean Air, lakes, trees, awesome scenery, pristine mountains, and camping describes
just some of the values we enjoy in the Cascade Area. Summertime golfing, whitewater
rafting, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, kayaking, parasailing, hobycat, rock climbing,
camping, sightseeing, backpacking and picnics to mountain lakes, photography, canoeing,
horseback riding, bird watching in the summer to downhill skiing, cross country skiing,
snowmobiling, ice fishing, ice skating, hot tubing, snow shoeing, trapping,
inner tubing
down snow-covered hills, snowmobile racing, sightseeing, ice sculptures and frosty the
snowman.
Hunting & Fishing
Wild Game Animals plentifully abound throughout the region and include: Rocky Mountain
Elk, deer, moose, bear, bobcat, mountain lion, coyotes, foxes, blue grouse, wolf and
ruffed grouse. Other animals include. squirrels, chipmunks, osprey, bald eagles, pelicans,
ducks, geese, swans, ground squirrels. Rifle hunting season, black-powder, archery, and
shotgun seasons start in the fall with cow elk as a draw application, with bull elk, buck,
and doe as a general season. Fishing species in the area includes: trout, perch, Tiger
Muskie, bass, white fish, bull trout, rainbow, dolly varden, coho, brown, steelhead. and
salmon. Ice fishing on Lake Cascade is very popular.
General
Cascade is a LIFESTYLE, geared to the relaxed individuals who appreciate
the clean air, honest hardworking neighbors and the quality of life that Cascadian's
live. Senior Center provides meals and activities all year round
including pitching horseshoes. bingo, and table pool. July 4th Thunder Mountain
Days sponsored by Cascade Chamber of Commerce includes a downtown parade, Lions
Club Barbecue, huge fireworks display at the Park By the Lake. Cascade Schools
include grades K-12 under one roof with 2 gyms and a population of 369 students.
Cascade High School has earned the reputation as one of the best Schools in
Idaho. Seven Churches enhance the spiritual foundation of this community. 4700’
elevation and a lighted airport runway of the same length is home to Arnold
Aviation who files the back country mail on a regular basis and in the winter
affixes skis to his Cessna. Invitational softball summer tournaments are held at
the 2 diamonds and concession stand located south of Cascade. A new Cascade Post
Office was just completed January 2000 and is adjacent to the Idaho Historical
Railroads/Thunder Mountain Line which runs a 2.5 hour 33 mile round trip ride to
Smiths Ferry and back. The Cascade Medical Center is available to assist with
emergency and general medicine. Life Flight Helicopters are just a few minutes
